Between mining and industrial culture

The small town with the long history is ideally situated on the shore of the largest natural lake in the Allgäu region. Here, routes across the Alps, lake Constance, and the castles of Ludwig II are all within a stone’s throw. In the middle is the cradle of German cheese making – Immenstadt. The only open-air museum of its type, the Allgäu mountain farm museum, has lively displays on this subject. The oldest town in Oberallgäu combines history, culture, and nature to a highly exuberant common denominator. The historic town centre, with its castle and artistically designed fountains and squares, is an attractive framing for the cradle of the Allgäu dairy industry and of the German hosiery industry.
